It’s been an earth changing 20 years since the release of House of Downtown’s debut album Release - a top 40 album that firmly put a stake in the ground for New Zealand Dance music, the pioneering cut seamlessly fused elements of Soul, Funk, Disco & House with a proudly Pacific flavour
Boasting ever popular dance-floor magnets including the infectious Downtown Groove, Deeper Love with accompanying tongue-in-cheek video, and of course Whatever Comes, a track that well & truly threw the funk down! The album sounds as fresh, international, polished yet hand-crafted & damn right funky today as it did when eclectic DJ/producer combo Christiaan Ercolano & Emerson Todd cooked it up
As a celebration of this still unique slab of NZ Electronica, there’s something special on the way to coincide with the 20th anniversary of ‘Release’ & 2021 NZ Music Month – A Special Edition, all new version of the album.
Due to be released May 7th on UMusic, Re-Release will be a welcome addition to the House of Downtown collection for existing fans, and great introduction to the melting pot for newer fans – Featuring all new remixes & versions of from Release, the new & updated album boasts a heap of talent, local and international, including DJ Phillippa, Jason Eli, Alkalino, DiCE_NZ, MissB and Dean Webb, as well as new remixes from Todd & Ercolano, and even a new talent via a great remix competition supported by the Rockshop!
Supported by an exclusive Album launch night at Neck of the Woods May 8th, the Album promises to be an eclectic mix of productions, with something for everyone – and there’s a teaser being dropped on April 23rd called Rise Above (OOJ Remix) – Never heard of OOJ? – Well he’s another stalwart of the scene, Joost Langeveld.
Available on all platforms, everywhere, a slice of Kiwi history past and present – Be sure to support this celebration.
