One of New Zealand’s most talented contemporary jazz artists, Michal Martyniuk, has pulled together some of jazz/neo soul’s global heavyweights and is set to deliver his stunning new EP Reconciliation on June 11.

The five track EP started life in 2020 with Polish based producer Adam Kabcinski and Michal laying the foundations of the songs that are included in this release.

Mike Patto and Nathan Haines were engaged to complete the project and added their inimitable production and mix down magic to those initial Polish recordings. The result is a fantastic - and truly global - sounding collection of songs.

The lead track Reconciliation features regular collaborator Nathan Haines on saxophone and production duties. Nathan needs no introduction – his international albums and collaborations with luminaries such as Phil Asher, Marlena Shaw, Damon Albarn, 4Hero, Jamiroquai and many more speak for themselves.

Up and coming Polish vocalist YaniKa lent her Jazz vocal stylings to the super cool New Things. The gorgeous How Do We Make It? features Vanessa Freeman, one of the UK’s best loved vocalists (4Hero, Nathan Haines and Bugz In The Attic). On this track she delivers a warm and compassionate vocal that sets a tone for kindness and self-empowerment.

Further down the track order the listener will find Michal’s mighty fine collaboration with well-known US rapper Raashan Ahmad in the form of Speak Your Words.

Common Desire sees Michal flexing his skills on this piano feature whilst harmonica player Kacper Smolinski takes this track to another level.

The Reconciliation EP is full of dynamite neo-soul grooves ripe with classy keys, bubbling bass lines and infectious beats. Reconciliation brings fresh optimism for these crazy times, as well as representing a young musician at his peak exploring multiple genres and musical styles to deliver an absolutely outstanding body of music.

A little about Michał Martyniuk

Polish born New Zealand resident Michal Martyniuk is a composer, pianist and keyboardist and is widely regarded as a rising star on the global jazz and neo-soul scenes.

In 2016 Michal released his debut album Odyssey under the After ‘Ours moniker (a collaboration with drummer/producer Nick Williams), featuring contributions from Nathan Haines, UK based soul singer Sharlene Hector, and with production and mixdown duties by Mike Patto in the UK.

2018 saw Michal release Nothing To Prove, his second acoustic jazz based album which highlighted his mastery of the piano. followed by Resonate in 2019. Both albums featured his Poland based band.

Michal achieved 2nd place at the prestigious Made In New York Jazz Competition and was nominated for the Fryderyk 2019 - Jazz Discovery Of The Year award.

In 2020 he was a finalist at the New Zealand Music Awards under the Best Jazz Album category with his album Resonate.
