Tall Folk are releasing their debut EP Live From Martin's today, on the heels of releasing their single (T)Ruth in May. The Dunedin-based folk duo will be promoting the occasion with a three night run of shows, June 25-27, throughout Southland and Otago.
Despite the short time playing together - initially established in late 2020 - the project’s songwriting is any but elementary. Lara Robertson is a born and bred Dunedinite, having played heavily in the local singer-songwriter folk scene. Her unique brand of warm vocal tones juxtapose those of Midwestern American import Jack Ringhand. Their songwriting and harmonies, both hardened in Americana tradition and South Island style, are brooding and piercing - best experienced while cozied up fireside.
Tall Folk have been busy debuting the release’s songs live to air on Radio 1 and OAR this week. The public can also hear them live at one of their EP release shows, all of which with acclaimed local artists. The June 25 show in Invercargill is accompanied by Oscar LaDell and Hoot, as well as Lachie Hayes. Next up is June 26 in Pounawea with Ronel Hunter, followed by a hometown show June 27 at the Dunedin Folk Club with Melissa and The Dr.
