29 June 2021 - 0 Comments

Three up-and-comers have been selected to open for pop sensation Paige on her New Zealand tour, which kicks off in Auckland on July 15 as part of the Tuning Fork’s monthly series ‘Thursdays I’m in Love’; before heading to Tauranga on July 16; Christchurch on July 23 and Wellington on August 6. They’ll join Paige alongside the tour’s official support acts Wells* and BEXY.

July 15 - Auckland – Tuning Fork
July 16 - Tauranga – Totara Street
July 23 – Christchurch – Blue Smoke
August 6 – Wellington – Meow

Earlier this month, in conjunction with ZM, Paige launched ‘Playing It Forward’ a campaign aiming to give a helping hand to other New Zealanders looking for their big breaks, by offering them the chance to open for her in Tauranga, Christchurch or Wellington.

Paige received dozens of videos from talented singers and had the difficult task of choosing just three acts. Alongside ZM host Cam Mansell, she revealed the winning acts on yesterday. They are:

Ash Laforteza is an eclectic musician who creates fusions from genres such as soul, reggae, pop and a touch of psychedelics. Currently making wonders in the little town that is Mount Maunganui, he will open for Paige in Tauranga. Find Ash here: Instagram / Spotify

KEI – AKA Keira Michelle Jonkers - mixes pop with R&B, jazz and rock elements. Her musical influences range from Chris Cornell and Serj Tankian to H.E.R and Labrinth. Originally from Huapai, she’s now based in Christchurch, where she'll open. Find KEI here Instagram / Facebook

Wellington pop singer and songwriter, Jason Parker, will open for Paige in his hometown. After a brief appearance on Pop Stars NZ, Jason released his debut single You Rescued Me, which has already clocked up thousands of streams on Spotify. Find Jason here

All three will join Paige’s official support acts on the tour, Wells* who is playing in Auckland, Tauranga and Wellington and BEXY who is playing in Christchurch.

Wells* is a songwriter and producer from Auckland who takes an experimental approach to production and applies it to his passion for pop music. He has written and produced songs with the likes of Paige, Navvy and Thomston, while also building his own world of music through his infectious series of mini-EP's called The Tapes, which have garnered millions of streams.

Christchurch-based BEXY first made her mark in 2019 with the single Wish We Had History. With over eight million streams on Spotify, she is one to watch on the local indie-pop scene. BEXY has a diverse sound, from stripped soulful folk songs like her single You Don't Lie to fully structured indie-rock anthems like You Expect Me To Not Be In Love?

Catch Paige performing this Friday, July 2 as part of Tuawahine at The Civic in Auckland. Get tickets here. She's also releasing a brand new single Goodbye on Friday, so stay tuned!
