Albi, AKA Chris Dent, is crossing the ditch for his second tour of 2021 performing four shows in Tasmania accompanied by violinist and partner Hannah Morrell. The tour consists of 8 dates (Four in New Zealand, one with his flagship band Albi & The Wolves) and begins this Friday night opening for UK duo Good Habits at the Artwork's Theater on Waiheke Island.
Chris, Albi, is a unique character that’s been a consistent part of New Zealand’s music scene since 2014. He’s toured twice in Europe with a musical comedy duo called Zarek & Albi, won Best Folk Artist 2018 at the Aotearoa Music Awards with Albi & The Wolves for their first album One Eye Open. collaborated with The Sweet Mix Kids, Mt Eden Dubstep, and has performed in at prestigious festivals around New Zealand and Australia including WOMAD (NZ) and Woodford Folk Festival (AUS).
2021 was the year he decided to do more things on his own. The thought came to him after he started a Patreon which was generously supported by friends, a lot of the music he’s performing on the tour has been funded by that. The singer and guitarist dabbles in a few genres but primarily resides within a soulful version of indie folk and in his songs he tends to write about the stories that surround him in everyday life. His lyrics are concise and conversational, and are usually honestly heartfelt as he engages with topic’s addition, heartbreak, joy, love, and loss.
Performing is not new to him, but setting out on his own is. So come and see the development of the show, hear songs at their earthiest, and enjoy some stories to go along with them. If you’d like to support him on Patreon then follow this link: https://www.patreon.com/albiplaysmusic
Hannah Morrell is a Launceston born musician who’s dedicated to her craft, the multi instrumentalist primarily performs on the violin but has begun taking to stages with her voice, banjo, and guitar and is mostly known for performing with The Dead Maggies or The Stragglers. She’ll be accompanying Albi at all of the shows in Tasmania.
