Marianne Leigh sets off on her 'Simple Things' Tour, last stop in Wellington

19-year-old Auckland artist Marianne Leigh recently released her breathtaking EP Simple Things, celebrating the release in Wellington as part of her Simple Things Tour, supported by musicians Edera and Rose Lubransky.

Written entirely from Marianne’s personal experience, Simple Things encapsulates the raw, beautiful and often extreme emotions of teenagehood. Each track untangles the complicated rollercoaster that is adolescence, with the body of work tied together by the overarching theme of love in all its forms.

“Writing this collection of songs helped me uncomplicate my problems, inspiring the title of the EP. Each song discusses different types of love; whether it is for yourself, a friend, or for a relationship. And love, at its core, is a simple thing.”

“Authenticity beams through Marianne Leigh’s connection, vast musical space and raw artistry." - NZ Musician Magazine.

Edera is an alt indie musician proudly based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. Her soft-yet-angsty lyrics plant a seed that will have you dancing along or shedding a tear to some freshly harvested Ederacore

Leigh's songs discuss the struggles of a naive youth, the ups and downs of love, and learning life lessons. She is a three-time finalist of the Play It Strange songwriting competitions, placed first in Smokefree Rockquest Regionals in 2019, and brought her talent to TV on the Cath Vincent & What Now TV Shows.

At just 17 years old, Marianne Leigh was chosen by Hei Hei TV to work alongside NZ music icon Jamie McDell. The pair recorded the single Streetlights together, the creative process captured on 'Uke Can Do It' TV series available on TVNZ On Demand. Her music has been broadcasted Nationwide; premiering her EP on TheHits Radio, interviewed by Jesse Mulligan and played live on RNZ, and brought her music internationally on Australian radio.

Writing the EP between the ages of 16 and 18, the indie-pop artist found comfort in the expression of music, turning to lyric and melody to communicate complex feelings into something simple.

“I find myself writing music through the painful and joyful times in my life. When I'm not able to speak my mind, or I feel I'm not being heard, I know I can always write and create.”

The EP contains the already released hood-laden single Sweet Goodbyes, as well as the emotive piano ballad Suddenly.
