TE TĪMATANGA – THE BEGINNING

1:12 Records and Whammy Bar present: Te Tīmatanga – The Beginning, a Matariki celebration featuring Māori musicians from Tāmaki Makaurau, Kirikiriroa and Otautahi.

Matariki for Māori is a time of renewal, reflection, wānanga and celebration. Te Tīmatanga – The Beginning will be a coming together of friends, fans and whanau to celebrate and enjoy whakaaturanga mataora (live performance).

The line up on the night will include appearances from Alien Hand, Cindy, The Coolies, Dbldbl, Hagseed, Half / Time, Hallelujah Picassos, King Ketchup, K M T P, Na Noise, Roy Irwin and Thee Golden Geese.

Tickets are available now through Under the Radar and are $20 for attendees with Māori whakapapa and $30 for general admission.

Te Tīmatanga – The Beginning promises to be an opportunity for Tāmaki Makaurau’s independent music community to celebrate Matariki and for Māori musicians to whanaungatanga. The show seeks to develop links between urban Māori musicians in Tāmaki Makaurau with those throughout Aotearoa, creating opportunities for creative collaboration in the future.

Te Tīmatanga – The Beginning follows on from 2021’s Te Hihiri – The Spark, held at Whammy Bar in 2021. Te Hihiri brought together 14 independent bands and artists with Māori whakapapa from Tāmaki Makaurau, Whanganui, Kirikiriroa, Pōneke and Ōtaki to celebrate the rise of Matariki as the premier event in Maramataka Māori (the Māori lunar calendar). If Te Hihiri was the spark, Te Tīmatanga is the beginning.
