Auckland Folk Festival 2023 is on and celebrating 50 years

12 October 2022 - 0 Comments

Auckland Folk Festival celebrates 50 years!  New Zealand’s largest folk festival is back and better than ever, with 2023 promising a very special occasion as the festival celebrates half a century of togetherness, music and dance.

The festival team is anticipating this to be the biggest Folk Festival in New Zealand’s history with thousands expected to flood through the gates of the three-day celebration at Kumeu Showgrounds over Auckland Anniversary Weekend (Fri 27th Jan - Mon 30th Jan 2023), bringing together a unique line up creative and talented artists for a very special 3-day celebration of the broad genre that is ‘folk’.

After two years of restrictions we are delighted to announce that we are expecting a wide variety of artists from New Zealand and abroad this year. There will be a particular focus on celebrating 50 years of the Auckland Folk Festival with visual, musical and other tributes to its diverse history. The festival team can’t wait to reveal its full lineup announcement on October 27th, alongside the release of festival tickets.

The Kids Stage is once again a huge part of the festival, especially for the many families that camp out all weekend.A youth orchestra takes over the Kids Zone on Saturday afternoon and a family picnic, kids dance and night-time tales closes out the day. Sunday kicks off with a series of concerts before instrument making and a parade. Get your creative juices flowing and write some new songs or dances to showcase at the festival. Children under 10 are free all weekend.

All marquees are covered but open sided, and as will be the song of the summer, the festival will be keeping a close ear for any government announcements or regulations for gatherings and will ensure a safe environment for all. With an entire showground to spread across, there is plenty of space for all.

Invite your mates and bring the family for a laid back camping weekend. All signs point to Helensville, and you can find the Auckland Folk Festival along that highway in Kumeu, not even twenty minutes from the centre of the city, for a sunny last weekend of January.
