Rising Auckland Alternative/Hip-Hop Artist Luke-W (Luke-dub) is set to release his third studio project Close As Ever on October 14th, 2022. The 11-track album is a cultivation of seamless styles and sub-genres woven together by Luke-W’s distinctive tone and evocative lyricism.
This is Luke-W’s most intimate work to date. It spans atmospheric and hard-hitting beats, pairing self-production with collaborations from an array of talented producers; Andrew Meyer, Edward Melton, Cody Wave & Tom Lee (Lee Mvtthews).
“This album is about a lot of things, but mostly it’s the feeling of being at a point where I'm as close to my dreams as I am from my past. It focuses on love, loss, healing and growth, through the lenses of pursuing your passion against the odds. It's a reminder to maintain relentless optimism throughout the journey despite the limbo that lives between it all, reflecting on the relationships with myself, those close to me and experiences that brought me here.”
In the two years since his latest release Timing Is Everything, Luke-W has grown in both songwriting and acclaim with each release. He has appeared on the ‘Hot 20 NZ Singles’ with the likes of True Cause (#12) and Rhyme & Reason (#13), and racked up over a million plays on streaming services.
Prior to Timing Is Everything Luke-W released his Progress EP in 2019.
In November, 2022, Luke-W is embarking on his Close As Ever tour. He will be supported by Nadis, Swizl Jager and a host of special guests. The tour kicks off with a bang on Guy Fawkes in Raglan on Nov. 5th (Yot Club), followed by Christchurch on Nov. 12th (Wunderbar), Wellington on Nov 18th (Red Square), and a homecoming show in Auckland at The Mothership on Dec. 2nd.
