The Veils '...And Out of the Void Came Love' - New Double Album Out Today

03 March 2023 - 0 Comments

Banished From The Universe records are overjoyed to announce the release of The Veils highly anticipated new double album …And Out Of The Void Came Love. Now available to stream and purchase in all good record stores or from The Veils online store.

Featuring the singles Undertow, No Limit Of Stars, Time and Bullfighter (Hand Of God)the album is the result of a tumultuous period of injury, isolation and new life, and is the first release from the band since the critically acclaimed Total Depravity in 2016.

The Veils are celebrating the release with a nationwide tour of Aotearoa in March, followed by a long-awaited European tour in the Spring.

“A calm and captivating pearl… beautiful.” - Rolling Stone

“Fables, myths and hymns… dark forests and deep black wells straight from the folk tales of the Brothers Grimm… The new record traverses richly evocative territory.” - Stuff

Released worldwide on NYC based label Ba Da Bing Records, and in Aotearoa by Banished From The Universe …And Out Of The Void Came Love is an album intended to be listened to in two sittings with a short break in the middle. Or as Andrews instructs: “Make a coffee or smoke a cigarette – but don’t mow the lawn or go to the movies or something, that takes too long.”

The album was produced by local legend Tom Healy, with composer Victoria Kelly’s soaring string arrangements also playing an integral role in bringing the songs to life. The album also features an incredible assortment of musicians including Cass Basil (bass), Dan Raishbrook (lap steel, guitar), Liam Gerrard (piano), Joseph McCallum (drums) the NZTrio, and special guests the Smoke Fairies on backing vocals.

“Refreshingly passionate… Andrews rages with a Herculean intensity.” - The Guardian

“Horse-whipped, lightning-crash clamour… magnetic.” - Pitchfork

“One of the finest songwriters of his generation.” - Drowned in Sound

Following on from this exciting new release, The Veils are also reissuing their seminal 2006 album Nux Vomica on March 31st. This pressing contains the original mixes by Nick Launay (PiL, The Birthday Party), which have never before been made public. All copies of the original pressing sold out years ago and are currently going on eBay for vast sums, so this reissue will be hotly anticipated! Keep an eye out on The Veils merch store for pre-orders available soon.

The Veils will be touring …And Out Of The Void Came Love through March & April 2023. Their first national tour since the sold out Nux Vomica 15th anniversary tour of 2021.

The incomparable Australian folk artist, Grace Cummings will join as support on all shows.
