Graeme James Releases Single 'Fireflies' - Announces 'Play One We All Know Volume III' and National Tour

04 August 2023 - 0 Comments

Ten years ago, indie folk artist Graeme James released his first album Play One We All Know and today James releases his first single from Play One We All Know Vol. III to celebrate.

The first single from the project is Fireflies, is a tune that leans into the effervescent energy of the Owl City original while embracing the indie folk/folk pop that he has become well known for. The live looping artist has played a host of instruments including guitar, fiddle, piano, bass, banjo, ukulele, bass, drums and xylophone, the result is a beautiful and distinctive new take on a modern classic.

The original Play One We All Know found its origin in the wild street parties, spontaneous jams and serendipitous moments of his first year as a full time musician. One of those serendipitous moments involved a chat with a street magician from Boulder, Colorado who encouraged him to record an album of the cover songs that people were so obviously enjoying.

In a unique take on crowdfunding - the album’s recording sessions were financed entirely by the generosity of the crowds of people who would form to watch him busking around New Zealand. Having sold a few thousand copies on the streets, the album went on to rack up over 20 million streams on Spotify and helped propel him forth into a successful musical career.

It was followed by Play One We All Vol. II and his debut original album, News from Nowhere which led to a record deal with major Indie label Nettwerk Music Group; and over 50 million streams of his music to date; which makes him one of the most successful NZ indie artists in his genre at present.

The release of Play One We All Know Volume III is taking him on the road across Aotearoa this winter. Featuring music from the last 10 years, and a taste of what's to come, join him for a fun and nostalgic celebration of where it all began.
