Vorsen are a three-piece Wellington-based band gathering momentum as they embark on the second part of their World On Fire tour Aotearoa tour. Based around the songs of John Halvorsen, Vorsen's musical landscape covers a wide range of genres and periods that are hard to pigeonhole.
Halvorsen’s contribution to New Zealand music to date is enormous. He co-founded The Gordons, was guitarist for Skeptics from 1985 to 1991, and is a core member of Bailterspace.
Now we find out where he’s heading next; he describes the Vorsen sound as melodic, heavy, emotive, grungy, wity echoes of shoegaze and space rock.
Halvorsen’s discography over a 43-year period includes over 20 records. The Gordons' 1981 self-titled album received the IMNZ Classic Record award at the Taite Music Prize ceremony in 2014, and on its re-release in 2021 went to Number 3 in the NZ Music Official album chart.
Vorsen start the second part of their 2023 World on Fire tour next weekend, with shows in Ōtautahi Christchurch on Friday September 15th, Ōtepoti Dunedin on Saturday September 16th, and Lyttelton on Sunday September 17th.
Vorsen has also released their very first recording, the song 'Terraformer', which has just become available on Bandcamp.
