Gig & Concert News - Aotearoa’s Bridges unveils heartbreakingly honest new single and video, 'okay, alright'

Quickly ascending indie-pop artist Bridges has today released her atmospheric new single and video okay, alright - a deeply moving song of sadness and pain, yet triumph and healing.

“This song puts into words some universal themes of what myself, and many people in their 20s are struggling with as we grow into adulthood. It’s about working through and emotionally processing childhood; finally recognising the journey it’s taking to heal, and asking for patience from the world while it happens,” explains Bridges.
Written by Bridges herself, the track was then produced and mixed at her home studio by Rāwiri Waters,before being mastered by the LA-based, Grammy-winning engineer Brian Lucey. The track is so raw and personal, Bridges was unsure at first as to whether it would ever be released.
“It feels really vulnerable to be putting it out into the world,” she reflects. “However, once I played it live for a few people, and saw how much they connected with it in their own lives, I felt I couldn’t not put it out.”
Also out today is the accompanying video; a gorgeously emotive visual representation of the atmospheric nature of the song. Directed and edited by Bridges, and filmed by Rāwiri Waters, the video is intentionally simple, drawing focus to the delicate and personal subject matter.
Amongst the emotional challenges of filming such a sensitive song, Bridges says it was enjoyable getting to experiment with visual creativity to capture the mood. “This is what happens when I get to play with a silly amount of lights and a smoke machine,” laughs Bridges.

okay, alright is the third single to come from Bridges’ latest chapter, following the cinematic single Gone ; which was quickly added to radio across Aotearoa and featured on tastemaker magazine/blog Coup de Main. Previous to Gone was the upbeat and empowering track, Pills . Supported by NZ On Air, Pills received widespread local media coverage including features on MTV, Sun FM, and The Hits, with playlist inclusion from the likes of Spotify’s The Local List Aotearoa, and Apple Music’s Breaking Pop and New In Pop.
Christchurch-born, Auckland-based Bridges (aka Rachel Hamilton) is quickly gaining momentum after transforming her sound from an acoustic singer and songwriter into a fully fledged indie-pop act, performing live with her powerful four-piece band. Recently opening for Aussie breakthrough act Teenage Dads at Auckland’s Tuning Fork with her captivatingly bold and engaging live act, Bridges is just getting started.
