Aotearoa electronic legend The Nomad releases 'Infinite', compiling 25 years of music on double vinyl LP

08 September 2023 - 0 Comments

Celebrating twenty-five years of musical movement, Aotearoa electronic music trailblazer The Nomad presents The Nomad - Infinite, a 180gm ‘vinyl only’ double album release, featuring 16 hand-picked tracks representing the best of The Nomad’s music, since his first release in 1998.

A pioneer can be described as ‘a person who is among the first to explore’ or ‘be the first to use or apply a new method or technique’. Daimon Schwalger, aka The Nomad, firmly fits the bill as a pioneer of the electronica music scene in Aotearoa - New Zealand. Since his first album release ‘Movement’ in 1998, he has gone on to release seven full length albums, remix albums and various singles.

Those tracks map the progression of Aotearoa’s electronic music scene, as it gathered steam toward the mature, diverse and richly talented scene of today. The Nomad’s own experiences from the early days, featuring at the infamous The Gathering festivals, his own maturation as a musician and father, through to his more recent success as a videographer capturing the beauty of Aotearoa’s West Coast are reflected in this compendium of his best work.

“The nomadic traveller working on beats all day” has compiled an impressive body of work, which features collaborations with many different artists and musicians from New Zealand, Australia, UK and Jamaica. Artists include; Barnaby Weir (The Black Seeds), MC Antsman (The Nomad / Rhombus), Tehimana Kerr (Fat Freddy’s Drop), Pearl Runga, Tiki Taane, Opiuo, King Kapisi, Farda P (Rockers HiFi), Luciano, Lisa Tomlins, Oakley Grenell (O.G.), Dexta Malawi, Ras Stone and many more.

The Nomad - Infinite is a limited-edition release, with only 300 copies to mark this milestone. The double LP is a vinyl time capsule of the Nomad’s chronological musical journey over the past quarter century; an organic celebration of home-grown creative expression of the highest order, ever evolving, maturing, and flowing over sonic landscapes.

"I was hosting a series of audio production workshops in Greymouth High last May and one of the students asked me how long had I been producing music as The Nomad," says Schwalger. "I worked out the numbers and was amazed that it had been for 25 years. Then and there I said to the class that I would produce a 25 year double vinyl to celebrate the milestone born here at the workshop. When I finished the course that day I went away and started to email and message my contacts in the industry."

Reflecting on the release Schwalger notes that "putting the compilation together has taken so much time and hard work. No expense was spared, with KOG remastering the audio, the lacquer produced in the USA, the plates made in the UK and then the pressing made here in NZ. It’s been all hands-on deck to support the kaupapa and make this good thing happen."

Infinite features stunning original artwork by Francis Cheetham, with audio re-mastered by Chris Chetland at KOG, pressed locally to 180g double vinyl by Holiday Records. Infinite is an Aotearoa family affair with all hands-on deck to support the kaupapa and make good things happen.

To celebrate the release of Infinite, The Nomad is coming to Auckland to perform a special one off show at The Mothership on Friday 13th October. The Nomad will be joined by long time collaborator MC Antsman (Rhombus), with supports from AlleyKat, Matt Rapid and live visuals provided by warpTV.
