Aotearoa’s TOI unveil soulful, ethereal new single 'Wired'

20 October 2023 - 0 Comments

Wellington-based TOI have today unveiled their ethereal new single Wired; the third single to be released from their upcoming album, out early 2024.

Listen to Wired  HERE

A soulful, R&B track infused with dreamy and euphoric undertones, Wired explores themes of desire and temptation, but also resistance to the pull as it’s “not worth wasting what you have, for something fleeting that you desire in that moment.”

“In a way it’s also a love song,” says frontman Conway Jeune. “The lyric “it’s all you” suggests that no matter what, you’ll always choose what’s waiting for you at home and what is best for that.”

Originally written a week before performing it to a sold-out Spark Arena when opening for the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2019, ‘Wired’ began as a stadium rock track before being given the “Neil MacLeod” treatment by the band's producer.

“When we showed it to Neil, he turned it into a more ethereal, soulful, electronic sort of steeze,” says Conway. “It’s a really different tune to how we originally intended it to be, but it quickly became one of our favourite tracks on the album.”

The band have also revealed they’re hitting the road for a three-date headline tour in celebration of today’s single: this is the first time in more than two years that TOI have played their own headline tour.

The Wired Tour’ will kick off in Auckland on November 3 at Big Fan, followed by a show in Raglan on November 4 at The Yard, before finishing with a bang in their hometown of Wellington at Meow on November 17.

With a hard-earned reputation as one of the tightest bands on Aotearoa’s live scene, TOI has traveled the breadth and width of the country performing their own headlining shows; playing killer sets at festivals and sharing stages with heavyweights such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ocean Alley, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Katchafire, L.A.B. and Tash Sultana.

Get ready for the tour by listening to Wired and grab your tickets now - don’t miss the chance to witness this new track live.
