Legendary Indie Rock Band Voom Release New Single 'We Don't Care'

Auckland indie-rock band, Voom, who — after years of releasing and performing music to their cult-like following — have released a brand new single, We Don’t Care — out now via Flying Nun Records.

There is something so earnest, and refreshingly irony-free about Voom’s songs, and We Don’t Care — although layered thick in juvenile cynicism and attitude — is no departure from their widely loved unpretentious style of skewed pop. “This song was written about a person. We can’t say who, but when they hear it they will know who they are. Make of that what you will; apply it to someone in your own life — or not. We don’t care.”

The single artwork for this track was created by none other than Flying Nun alumnus, David Mulcahy — of the Jean-Paul Sartre Experience and Superette fame. We Don't Care was made with the support of NZ on Air Music.

Generous as they are, the band will gladly play unreleased material at their rare, but very special live shows — so some die-hard fans may recognise today’s single. In saying that, even new Voom songs give the listeners the feeling of an instant classic, and an overwhelming sense of familiarity. This could be due to the fact that these songs have often been sitting inside the brain of songwriter Buzz Moller for decades — the same brain that has given audiences cult classics such as B Your Boy, King Kong, We’re So Lost and more recently Magic Ft. Fazerdaze.

Voom is lead vocalist and front person Buzz Moller, long-time Voomer and Goodshirt member and guitarist Murray Fisher, bass player Nick Buckton (AKA Sidekicknick), and drummer Josh Sorenson. The band have promised the team at Flying Nun Records that they’re sitting on a vault of unreleased and brand new material, so we can expect that a new album — the first since 2006 — may be just around the corner.

For now, you can catch the band live at Save The B — the fundraiser for 95bFM at the Auckland Town Hall next Wednesday the 20th December, with Voom, Princess Chelsea, Delaney Davidson & Marlon Williams, Tiny Ruins and many more incredible acts.
