Bleeding Star Announce First Auckland Show Since 2022

14 December 2023 - 0 Comments

Bleeding Star is Jude Savage, Carlos Bellamy, Kindekel Banda- Moyes and Otis Hill. Inspired by the long marriage of melody and noise they deliver a set of carefully considered cuts that are disarmingly raw and intuitively crafted. This is their first Auckland show since Others Way 2022 and they will be joined by Lucian Rice and Tom Verberne.

Bleeding Star have been fortunate enough to be on some choice bills including a performance supporting Daffodils, The Lazy Eyes, D.C. Maxwell, There's a Tuesday, Miss June and successful shows at Auckland’s The Others Way festival, The Newtown Festival 2023, and the Island Bay festival. They were also the band was voted #1 on Wellington’s Radio Active for their home bedroom recorded demo February. In another recognition of their potential, they placed second in the National Final of the Smokefree Rockquest in 2023. Bleeding Star are moving from strength to strength…and quickly. Don’t let their relative youth cause you any doubt. This young outfit play with a maturity beyond their years and deliver with an unflinching point of view. In April 2023 the band released their first full length record called Dropper which was well received by the music community and have now recorded a follow up collection of B-sides and home recordings which was released on October 1st 2023 called We Fall Together.

Much of their music acts as a catharsis for these four friends. Guitarist Otis Hill continues to battle a rare cancer and is motivated by embracing every opportunity they can get their hands on. As Carl Tomkins wrote “Living well is the best revenge”. So in spite of this shadow the band is relentless in pursuing its passions. These four are destined to make you sit up and listen.

Lucian Rice is a newly fashioned solo project set to reshape New Zealand's alternative landscape. Transitioning from his previous alias, stupid rich kid, Lucian has delved into a new sonic realm that better represents his writing while defying genre constraints; melding the current nu-gaze, dream pop and alternative movements into a captivating blend. Spending his time split between New Zealand and overseas, Lucian has had the chance to really hone his craft, working with local and international artists Nick Ward, carwash, Molly Payton and many others, demonstrating his versatility and capability as a producer/songwriter. With this project, Lucian is delivering songs that create a dreamlike, sonic blasting experience while remembering the first rule of pop music: catchiness.

23 year-old New Zealander Tom Verberne is a musical polymath who’s as just as comfortable writing grungy, alt-rock “mosh-pit cryers'' as he is intricate electronica, and vulnerable acoustic ballads. Routinely blurring the lines between styles, the consistent through-line is his relatable lyricism and distinctive production flair. These have earned him co-signs from no less than Beabadobee, Slow Pulp, Clairo, Snail Mail, Vegyn, Benee, Carwash and Joy Again; support from Spotify’s Fresh Finds, Apple’s INDIY and Amazon’s Fresh Electronic playlists; and a spot on Coup De Main’s annual “Must Know Artists” list.
