Hailing from Wellington the Mantarays grace the ports of Lyttelton to play El Santos Porteno for one night only.
Playing the kind of music suited perfectly to Lytteltons surroundings, with elements of Swampy and very groove based instrumentals, there music evokes imagery of misty mysterious port nights and creatures from a black lagoon.
They are also definitely a great dance act, at times bringing you back to the teen-beat of the late 50's early 60's, listening to bands like the Ventures and Tremolos with wailing vocals.
With Influences like Bo Didley, Lee Borsey, Little Richards, the Meters and Chants R+B coming across in there sound they are definitely a band you shouldn't miss in 2010.
“The Mantarays are an exciting band, blending the grooviest parts of Garage, Surf and Swamp blues, with wailing psychedelic organ, throbbing drums, and the smoothest dirty blues guitar you will hear in this country” - Ryan Prebble of Fly My Pretties and Spartacus R.
