From the label that helped instigate the ‘Welli Sound’, sprouted The Black Seeds and created Fly My Pretties, Loop Recordings Aot(ear)oa are proud to celebrate the release of Coast’s debut self-titled CD at Juice Bar, Friday 21 May.
An up-and-coming three-piece, Coast are inspired in equal parts by the East Coast where they hail from, the mana they share and a combined passion for music. The result of this fusion between Jade Pritchard (lead vocals, guitar), Ben Trinick (drums) and Pai (bass) is an intricate soulful roots sound moulded with rock soundscapes.
Much like a well-crafted puzzle where each piece snugly fits, Coast’s self-titled debut release, sees the band intuitively blend a roll call of genres from dub to funk, rock psychedelia to reggae/roots creating a resonance, that is both familiar to the kiwi ear and captivating in its passion-infused delivery.
Translated to their live set, Coast’s songs are nothing short of epic. Ranging from acoustic, heartfelt melodies laden with emotive vocal harmonies to complex, dynamic grooves awash with chugging guitars, hard hitting rhythms and sprawling bass lines, a powerful and mesmerising show is always anticipated.
Coast are officially supported by NZ Music Month as one of the new talents to look out for in 2010!
