Emerging indie rockers Wet Denim announce their sophomore EP On The Line will be released on Friday 27 September. To celebrate the EP’s release, the band will embark on a national tour this
October/November bringing their energetic live show to fans throughout the country. Promising to play the new EP in full and push their live show further than they have before, this will be fans first chance to see their new music live and loud!
Beginning in Dunedin at The Crown on Thursday 10 October, the band will then play Christchurch’s Darkroom on Friday 11 October and The Sail in Timaru on Saturday 12 October.
The band then head north playing Whammy Bar in Auckland on Friday 25 October, The Paisley Stage in Napier on Saturday 16 November and a homecoming show at San Fran in
Wellington on Friday 29 November.
On The Line sees euphoric highs contrasted with melancholic lows, and features both road-tested and brand-new material written and recorded over the past two
years.
“The EP has probably changed as much as we have over the past two years. As we’ve recorded this project over the past 12 months, the lyrics and arrangements have evolved a lot, sometimes being completely altered from original demos. These changes and development in songwriting reflects more and more where we’ve been as individuals, and as a band. Our collaborative writing process has given this music a deeply personal meaning to each of us in different ways, and it’s a project we’re really proud of.”
– Wet Denim
With all Wet Denim members contributing to songwriting and production (with co-production and mixing by Neil MacLeod) the record is a deeply personal one and serves as an exciting main event to previously released
singles Stuck With You, Again and Again and new single out today The Why.

An urgent driving track, The Why delivers a persistent four-to-the-floor drum beat, which anchors the relentless bass, floating guitars and commanding vocals. The Why’s story begins in the heart of the Wairarapa, during a writing trip at lead singer Nick Goodwin’s family bach. Inspired by the coziness of the bach but exposed to the blustering coastline, the lyrics touch on themes of equanimity: Calmness and composure, especially in a difficult situation. These themes reflect the sonics of the track, striking a line between surging rhythms and ethereal textures.
“The single art for this track is a photo of my great grandad holding my mum and auntie’s hands
outside our family bach under construction. This later became the spot where we wrote and recorded The Why. The setting of this trip really helped inform our desire to write a grounded song.” - Nick Goodwin
Also out now is the accompanying music video shot by the band and their friends over the past two years. Featuring moments from the original writing trip for The Why, live show highlights, the visuals also include insight into the band’s
life in Melbourne where they are currently based.
