WOLF GANG

There is no doubt that Wolf Gang is one of the bands to watch in 2010: their rise so far has seemed breathtakingly sudden. Mere months after Wolf Gang emerged from weird and wonderful scenes of lavish hedonism and the masked balls of London’s underground, they had a sizable 95bFM hit with the independently-released 7” ‘Pieces Of You’. Now, on the eve of the release of their Dave Fridmann-produced debut album, they repay NZ’s faith in them.

It all began innocently enough, with some bedroom demos (including the enthralling ‘Where Are You Now’) circulating around those in the know, catching the attention of both the hipsters and the music industry at large. Then, fuelled by the breakthrough ‘Pieces Of You’ and ‘The King And All Of His Men’ as well as supports with Florence And The Machine, Phoenix, Mike Snow, and Metric, Wolf Gang went on to a sell-out tour of the U.K. (including the sold-out show at London’s hip White Heat night).

Wolf Gang have recorded their debut LP (due for release in 2011) with Mercury Rev, MGMT and Flaming Lips producer David Fridmann in upstate New York specifically, in a small barn in a forest full of bears.

Wolf Gang’s sound leans toward Talking Heads existentialist anxiety, the charm and theatrics of David Bowie, and the bent nature of Brian Eno’s glam. But Wolf Gang’s indelible pop grandeur goes further, with skittering beats and heart-throttling melodies delivered with a suave panache.

Currently, Wolf Gang’s calendar is awash with globe-trotting; as well as two shows in New Zealand, the band will visit Australia to perform at Parklife Festival, before continuing on to a full U.S tour.
