Gig & Concert News - stellar* To Play Three Shows In Farewell, 'Best Of' Tour

stellar* To Play Three Shows In Farewell, 'Best Of' Tour

24 August 2010 - 1 Comment

Sony NZ's highest selling Kiwi band, stellar*, will tour in October for one last time to celebrate the release of their 17-track Best Of album and say a final thank you to their fans.

The tour came about after the band - Boh Runga, Chris van de Geer, Andrew Maclaren and Kurt Shanks - had a ball together in July recording infectious new single "So Alive" (which also features on the Best Of stellar* album).

The stellar* stats speak for themselves: seven Top 20 singles, three top 10 albums (including two at No. 1), more than 100,000 units sold, tours across New Zealand, Australia, Germany and the UK, and their four mantelpiece's full of NZ Music Awards.

At a time when New Zealand music struggled for airplay, stellar* burst on the scene with five radio hits in 18 months - Violent, What You Do, Undone, Every Girl, and Part of Me - their blend of rock and electronica on 1999's Mix album capturing the imagination of young musicians and concert-goers. Their reputation as innovative hit makers was embedded with All It Takes, Taken and Star off 2001's Magic Line album, and For A While and Whiplash off 2006's Something Like Strangers.

New projects and directions are now attracting the band's enthusiasm, with Runga's successful solo career and jewellery range releasing internationally, van de Geer and Maclaren's expanding production and songwriting interests, and Shanks' own album being recorded at Roundhead studios.

Tour dates are:

The Bedford, Christchurch, Friday 15th Oct
Bar Bodega, Wellington, Saturday 16th Oct
Sale St, Auckland, Thursday 21 Oct

Tickets on sale Monday 30 August exclusively from Ticketmaster http://www.ticketmaster.co.nz/ and more details can be found at www.facebook.com/stellar.co.nz

The stellar* show planned for October at the Bedford in Christchurch has been postponed due to the earthquake and resulting recovery.

The October 15th date will be rescheduled for the summer, once there is greater certainty around the earthquake-related issues.

Two of the band - Andrew Maclaren and Boh Runga - originate from Christchurch.

Says Andrew: "We're very saddened by the impact the earthquake has had on Christchurch, two of us have immediate family down there and in
the scheme of things it did not seem to be the right time to be doing this. It's really disappointing to postpone the show but all going
to plan we'll be back around Christmas time to make the last ever stellar* show a very special and heartfelt occasion."

Tickets that have already been purchased will be transferable to the revised show date or can be refunded from Ticketmaster.

'stellar* - the Best Of" will be released on 27 Sept through Sony Music, featuring new single 'So Alive'

stellar* fans are urged to stay tuned for an update on the rescheduled date at www.stellar.co.nz, www.facebook.com/stellar.co.nz or www.ticketmaster.co.nz.
