"Already given the coveted Gilles Peterson seal of approval, and wrapping up their first tour of the States, Electric Wire Hustle are on their way to groundbreaking status." The Revivalist /Okayplayer.com
It has been 10 long months since Wellington's Electric Wire Hustle performed as a full live band in Aotearoa after their NZ farewell in February.
Since then they have celebrated the international release of their album through UK label BBE Records, toured Europe and have recently completed their first U.S. tour. The U.S. tour saw them premiere at Los Angeles' Global Soul and Funk Forum alongside Dam Funk's band Master Blazter and continue onto the east coast where they performed at New York's CMJ New Music Marathon among many other great performances.
With band member Myele Manzanza returning to NZ soil after splitting his time between Berlin and New York and completing the Red Bull Music Academy in London in March, Electric Wire Hustle are ready to take the stage again for the South Pacific summer. Having already kicked things off with two Australian shows; one in Sydney and the other at the Australasian World Music Expo in Melbourne last week – they return for a big hometown show in the very same place they said goodbye 10 months earlier: San Francisco Bathhouse in Wellington on Friday the 10th of December.
“The last 10 months have been a whirlwind and the reception has been amazing. To see how far the music has spread and to be able to travel and perform in these places has been mind blowing.” says EWH's Taay Ninh
“We are not returning empty handed though” says manager Hayley Dingwall. “We have been very busy while we've been away and have some returning gifts. Lookout for new track 'Experience' which we are releasing on the 1st of December as part of the Experience Digital EP along with other material we have not yet released in NZ – the killer Scratch 22 remix of 'Again', the Steve Spacek collaboration 'Longtime' and another new track 'Flashlight'.”
“While in New York we were joined by videographer Vibol Moeung who documented EWH's first performances and experiences as a band in New York and also filmed a music video for 'Again'. We will premiere the documentary at our homecoming show in Wellington with the video due for release early 2011.”
