Supermodel release debut album on 1 August 2011

ANNOUNCING THE DEBUT ALBUM AND NATIONAL TOUR: TO THE MOUNTAINS

Wellington pop-rock quartet Supermodel, release their debut album To The Mountains on 1 August.

Inspired by their own musical journey to reach the top, lead singer and guitarist Mark Hanify commissioned artist Max Thompson to draw the album cover. Located on Great Barrier Island, Max spent months digitally drawing images of the band (sister Rose Hanify – piano, vocals; Mike White – bass; Tony Kemp - drums), as well as fans, family and fictional characters straight out of Supermodel’s songs. The result is a visual story, which reflects songwriter Mark Hanify’s musical world. (Cover image attached)

A red carpet envelops the mountain, paying homage to Red Carpet Girl- the next single from Supermodel. Imagined in a dream by Michael White, and brought into reality by Mark, Red Carpet Girl relates to any lover tainted by obsession. The twisted tale struts effortlessly along, tempting the listener to enter a world inhabited by The Beatles with a catchy ‘60s feel.

A statue of the figurative ‘Blondie’ takes precedence on the side of the mountain, and cheeky, animated cards guard the band, alluding to Supermodel’s catchy single Game Of Kings

“The jokers never have a plan, The aces always win the hand, We’re just trying to play this game…”

“It’s not about doing it by halves,” says front man Mark Hanify. “It’s about epic proportions.”

Building on the show tune and musical theatre informed stadium rock of previously released songs Send Me Dreaming, Blondie, and Want To Move, Red Carpet Girl elevates Supermodel to new levels of piano virtuosity, delicious harmonies, and unforgettable melodies, which dominate their entire album.

To The Mountains was recorded last year in the UK at Modern World Studios, with acclaimed producer Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers, Mel C, Opshop), before the band hit the summer festivals, appearing at Rhythm and Vines and Homegrown.

Live, Supermodel is unforgettable. Mark’s lead guitar work and powerful vocals are complimented by his talented younger sister Rose’s impressive harmonies. He shifts from crooner to Freddie Mercury in a heartbeat, revealing influences Queen, Muse and The Strokes, and dusting their rock solid back-line in gold.

Having opened for the likes of Midnight Youth, The Feelers, and Mystery Jets, Supermodel can entertain any crowd - from Wellington’s TSB Arena to the infamous 100 Club in London, where they played to a packed crowd last year.

To The Mountains is out on 1 August, 2011, packed with singles that send shivers down your spine.
