When most New Zealanders think of Brazil they envisage A beautiful, exotic, paradise like country with sun sand and beaches. It does have all this but it is also has the dark underbelly of poverty, gang warfare and an underlying menace which exists outside the tourist view.
From this existence the band EMINENCE was formed in 1995 by guitarist Alan Wallace in the city Belo Horizonte. The music was desperate, angry and violent and wore the scars of their surroundings. They were soon at the top of the underground metal scene in Brazil and were selected by MTV and Warner’s Brazil as the winners of the national SKOLROCK competition which threw them into the mainstream of the Brazilian music scene. Today they are considered as one of the top musical exports from Brazil and are even endorsed by the Brazilian goverment who finances the bands travels around the world.
EMINENCE have toured Europe, Japan and South America and played alongside Sepultura, Motorhead, Epica and Kataklysm. Members of EMINENCE are also in side projects with members of Brazilian heavyweights Sepultura.
EMINENCE will now be adding New Zealand to their list. In September they will embark on a nationwide tour of NZ, playing nine shows from Auckland to Invercargill. They will be joined by Wellington heavyweights Darklight Corporation who will be supporting their latest release Pitchblack.
This will be A chance to witness a world-class show and to experience the power and desperation of A band born from an existence most of us will never experience.
