She’s music’s latest international superstar….. she’s the hottest new artist in the world right now….. and she’s coming to New Zealand for the first time ever…… JJJJJJ Jessie J!
Solid Entertainment and The Edge are proud to present Jessie J, live at Auckland’s Vector Arena on February 28th. Tickets go onsale Friday 23rd December at 9am through Ticketmaster.
Jessie J has undoubtedly been the breakthrough artist of 2011. Starting the year by winning the BRIT Critics Choice Award Jessie J has blazed through 2011 in a blur of chart smashing, radio topping and show stopping success. The debut album Who You Are confirmed this prodigiously talented 23 year old songwriter and exceptional singer as one of the year’s biggest stars.
“The best singer in the world right now” Justin Timberlake
"I think her voice is illegal. The things she can do with her voice are criminal…..she is like an acrobat or magician with her voice" Adele
At the MOBO Awards in October Jessie J scooped four gongs including Best Act, Best Song and Best Album placing her centre stage alongside the likes of Adele, Beyonce and Rhianna; an international pop star in her own right and an acknowledgement of the force of nature that is Jessie J.
It was only a year ago that debut single Do It Like A Dude, an X rated fusion of hip-hop beats, rock guitar and killer chorus launched Jessie J on her way to the A list. A song about equality and self-confidence it peaked at Number 2 in the UK, travelled the world, and marked the arrival of an artist with her own rule book firmly in hand.
She’s the real deal - a girl from Essex, who shoots from the hip, grasps life by the throat and tells it like it is. Her monster voice and ear for hooks has connected to a generation of fans who identify with the personal situations and experiences that every single one of her songs is drawn from.
Now with multiple international hits under her belt, major appearances on prime time TV shows like X Factor and The Voice in the UK and the MTV VMA's held in LA performing Price Tag and Domino as well as spinning tunes for the likes of Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Bruno Mars and Adele, there’s no looking back for Jessie J.
The Guardian (UK) sums up nicely the Jessie J phenomenon saying "People in this country love big strong voices that hit high notes and blast you with hurricane force, and Jessie J's is one of those. And she can do it live...it works unadorned, it doesn't need machines to make it sound ‘good'...But she's more than just A Voice. She writes, too - not just doodles in her bedroom; we mean songs. Hit songs."
Having already worked with super producer Dr Luke co-writing one of the biggest selling singles in the States in 2009 (Party in the USA for Miley Cyrus), as well as writing for Justin Timberlake, Alicia Keys, Chris Brown and Christina Aguilera, 2011 has been a remarkable year that’s been nothing but her own.
Price Tag topped the singles charts in ten countries including New Zealand with its insanely catchy chorus “Its not about the money, money, money” taking residency at the top of airplay charts everywhere. It went double platinum here in NZ and the accompanying videois approaching a mind bending 200 million views on YouTube making it one of the Top 20 most viewed of all time!
The debut album Who You Are has sold huge quantities around the world and spawned further hits with Nobody’s Perfect, Who’s Laughing Now and the biggest of them all in New Zealand - the current single Domino that has been a permanent fixture at the tops of radio charts for months everywhere.
Jessie J has been described as Uma Thurman doing ghetto pop fabulosity (how cool is that?) and she’d hate you to say it but she’s ending the year as the newly crowned princess of pop!
Jessie J will play Vector Arena on February 28th - it’s the perfect time to see her.
