Delgirl & The Whirling Eddys
Saturday Night Dance At The Valley Hall
Saturday 3rd November, 7.30 pm.
Saint Martins Hall, Northumberland Street, North
Take two bands, six musicians, a pile of great tunes, then mix it up in an old Church hall and you’ve got the recipe for one fantastic night out!! Delgirl and The Whirling Eddys have been itching to play together for a long time, and finally – it’s happening.
“We had been talking about a gig together for ages. John (Dodd) plays in both bands, so it’s a chance for us to make the tall man sweat. We want his fingers to bleed all over the bass ‘cause he’ll be busy playing for hours”, laugh Delgirls Lynn Vare and Erin Morton. “Between us we’ve got an amazing amount of songs, it has just been the best fun practicing together and mixing it all up, it sounds fantastic”, they say. “Working on your tunes with such different and talented musicians is really exciting for us, the songs just grow and take on a whole new vibe.”
“The Eddys haven’t been very visable for some time, but we’ve been busy cooking up some magic in drummer Steve Hudson’s shed”, says John. “The band has actually been playing since 1995”. The current line up for the last five years also features bluesman Terry Ebeling and Doug Wright from the Oxo Cubans. “We’ve always been known as a dance band, but now we finally get the chance to get some girly whirly harmonies going - Delgirl brings a great feel to our sound”.
“Steve, and Terry and I played together in St Martins Hall as part of Cabaret Botanica this year, and Delgirl played there in April with Big Daddy Wilson”, says
Each band will do a separate set and then join together for a big band extravaganza to rock the night out!!
Tickets are $15 and are available from Open Books on North Road in the Gardens shopping area and
