As the garden city basks in stunning weather today, The Volunteer Army Foundation (VAF) gears up to take on an event of epic proportions. The Concert, with thanks to Skinny Mobile is set to impress and inspire on Saturday November 3 at AMI stadium.
The Concert, an 8-hour music event with 24 amazing Kiwi acts will get underway at 1pm, swinging all day until 10.30pm.
With just four days to go until the big day, organisers are thrilled to announce they have reached their audacious target of 40,0000 volunteer hours.
“After the quakes” Says co-founder and spokesperson Sam Johnson. “The most asked question of our team was 'how are you going to keep this momentum alive?' The Concert has proved a successful tool to promote and inspire people to get involved and make a difference to Christchurch! It’s been tough… way tougher than any of the earthquake related work, but we have nearly made it!”
Organisers advise to get down early. The music will kick off at 2pm, with local heroes; House of Mountain Feat. Hera, The Eastern and The Dukes building up to reggaelicious Kiwi favourites, Katchafire who will turn up the heat and bring the sunshine from 3pm igniting a massive day of live music action. Taking the stage will be; Scribe, PNC, Pieter T, Savage, DJ Sir-Vere, Che Fu & the Kratez, Avalanche City, Hollie Smith, Goodshirt, Dane Rumble, J Williams, K.One, Tyson Tyler & DJ CXL, Illegal Banditz feat. Brooke, Kidz in Space, Annah Mac, Autozamm, Late Nyte Hype, Massad, with special guest appearances from Titanium and Christchurch Pops Choir!
The Concert is not just about music. Those attending The Concert can lose themselves in the Skinny Interactive Village. This will display ostentatiously an array of wicked and wild giant inflatable games, interactive technology installations, and chill-out areas.
Event Manager Jonnie Halstead says “ The Skinny Interactive Village is as important to The Concert as the performances on stage – it brings the multi-facets of the volunteer community to life at the main event, and it’s a chance for key sponsors and supporters of the Volunteer Army to show-off their good work. It'll be a fun festival vibe on the day, a chance to move around and experience something different.”
The Concert has great news for those wanting to leave their cars at home. Environment Canterbury is kindly providing FREE transport on any Metro bus service between 12pm and 12am Saturday November 3rd. All you need to do is show the driver on board your Concert eTicket and you will be let on for nada.
Organiser Raf Manji urges, “If you don’t feel like catching the bus, it’s not far to cycle or you can drive as AMI Stadium has a huge par park. We consider the safety of all attendees crucial and are asking people to ensure your transport is sorted in advance, and your parents or friends know how you are getting home.”
Buses to the AMI Stadium are: The Orbiter (every 10 mins), No 7. Queenspark / Halswell, and NO 40. Wainoni/Middleton. Post event the Orbiters will be available on Whiteleigh Avenue to return concertgoers home safely. You can view the timetables for Metro services at www.metroinfo.co.nz
