Southland folk/country duo, Into The East are excited to announce the birth of their debut album Fight From The Inside due out May 24th. To coincide with the release, they’re hitting the road to share their swag of new songs and arresting live performances with the rest of the country.
Hailing from the south, Graeme Woller and Liv McBride are based in Invercargill and Wanaka respectively, and have been playing together for the past nine years.
“We both write individually, but something about our musical collaborations bring out these songs and these arrangements that seem to floor people at our live shows.” Says McBride. “There's a spirit and a story flowing between us when we perform and write. This album had a mind of its own & knew it had to be realised!”
The album was entirely self-produced and recorded in unique locations from late nights in a local radio station and afternoons in a city park to early mornings in Liv’s wardrobe.
As a consequence, Fight From the Inside brims with timeless, well crafted and simply executed songs replete with considered, complementary harmonies.
The first single off the album, On the Run is a thigh slapping number with a catchy electric guitar riff. McBride’s voice is powerful and husky as she belts out lyrics across punchy percussion and truncated guitar thrums.
What Have I Done? is a more somber offering with a subtle Celtic feel that suggests someone at crisis point. Consisting solely of picked acoustic, guitar, lead vocal and layered harmonies, the plaintive voice of McBride ruminates:
I must hide from the shadows, block the sun
And this all I’ve known to do
I must redesign myself again
What have I done? What have I done?
The duo have a string of shows lined up throughout the country which just kicked off in their hometown of Invercargill on May 22nd at the Southland Musician’s Club.
