The 2013 Classic Hits Acoustic Church Tour presents two of New Zealand’s most beloved songwriters and artists, Dave Dobbyn and Don McGlashan, together for the first time in a concert collaboration like no other.
Dobbyn and McGlashan are held in the very highest regard in New Zealand music as both solo acts and as members of favourite bands The Mutton Birds, Th’ Dudes, Blam Blam Blam and DD Smash, they are the authors of scores of iconic Kiwi hits including Anchor Me, Dominion Road, White Valiant (Don/The Mutton Birds) and Loyal, Slice of Heaven, Welcome Home (Dave). Together they form a pairing that will be even greater than the sum of its parts and a fitting way to mark the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the first Acoustic Church tour.
The duo will take time off from their respective projects for this tour of New Zealand. Don has been busy working on his third solo album, while Dave has recently invited over 20 guests to take part in his Stories Old and New tour. Classic Hits Acoustic Church Tour audiences can expect to hear classic tracks from both artists as well as some new original tracks, but all with a twist: all songs will have been re-arranged to suit the acoustics of the beautiful churches and cathedrals that make up the tour.
2013 is the sixth year of The Classic Hits Acoustic Tour and it will provide a series of seven exclusive shows, beginning in Hamilton and continuing on through Tauranga, Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. Dave Dobbyn, who headlined the 2010 tour, is excited to be returning to some of New Zealand’s most spectacular churches where he will perform in an environment that holds emotional significance for him.
“Church was where I first discovered my love of music. It’s great to be taking it back to where the journey began for me,” says Dave.
Don says: “I played on The Winery Tour last year with some of my old mates from The Mutton Birds, which was a wonderful experience, but I’m relishing the chance to play alongside Dave in these intimate environments”.
Civic Events co-promoter Brent Eccles is delighted to have two such talented musicians involved and says that the 2013 tour is set to be among the most anticipated.
"This year’s Classic Hits Acoustic Church tour will certainly be something special. We’re expecting a huge turnout from New Zealanders from all four corners of the country".
