Rhian Sheehan - Live with Orchestra Wellington

Saturday 2nd November 2013
The Opera House, Wellington

Following the release of Rhian Sheehan’s internationally acclaimed fifth studio album Stories From Elsewhere, Crossroads Wines & Radio Active are proud to announce: Rhian Sheehan Live with Orchestra Wellington at The Opera House on Saturday 2nd November.

Renowned for his emotive instrumental work that melds ambient post-rock and electronica with chamber music and environmental sounds; Sheehan’s live show will merge his filmic sound with a specially curated multimedia treatment created by past collaborator Gareth Moon of Nektar Films. The visuals will incorporate HD time-lapses of New Zealand’s beautiful landscapes and starscapes from acclaimed Auckland photographer, Joseph Michael.

Stories From Elsewhere is a series of enchanting instrumental works, offering an excursion into a soundscape of tender ethereal textures, brooding cinematic string arrangements, and playful experimental lullabies.

A rare aural and visual experience, the performance will feature Sheehan and his 9-piece band of contemporary musicians alongside – for the very first time – the 16-piece Orchestra Wellington. Special guests, experimental folk duo Rosy Tin Teacaddy will open the evening with a 25min set.

Sheehan’s band features a selection of talented musicians including Sheehan’s long-standing key collaborator, Jeff Boyle (Jakob), Steve Bremner (The Adults), Mailee Matthews (Charlie Ash) Ryan Prebble (The Nudge), Andy Hummel (The Woolshed Sessions), Ed Zuccollo (Harbour City Electric), Raashi Malik (Rhombus) and Jane Pierard.

This will be the first time Stories From Elsewhere has been performed live since its March 2013 release. The show will also include highlights from his acclaimed Standing in Silence album, which since its 2009 release has been performed only three times – each time garnering high praise for its ethereally esoteric approach and ability to communicate current global issues through music and film.

The album and performance of Standing in Silence received exceptional reviews with The Dominion Post remarking about the 2010 performance: “Spine tingling... a tsunami of sound. Sheehan, take a bow, you’ve nailed it”.

Stories from Elsewhere has had equally impressive praise with 5 star reviews and renowned American radio producer John Diliberto (Echoes) describing the album as “a modern ambient chamber music masterpiece of quietly epic dimensions.".
