In 2010, Dave Baxter hunkered down among the worn rafters of the Kourawhero town hall, surrounded himself with instruments and began to write. From this provincial setting came Our New Life Above the Ground, an album that would take Baxter, aka Avalanche City around the world, along with breakout single "Love, Love, Love".
Three years later, with his sophomore album in the wings, Baxter’s getting back to where it all began, paying tribute to his debut with a string of intimate shows around the country.
The tour will start with an invite–only* playthrough at Kourawhero, where Baxter will play Our New Life Above the Ground in its entirety. From there, he’ll take a campervan crawl through small town New Zealand, on Avalanche City’s most extensive national jaunt since 2012’s Winery Tour.

For Baxter, the tour’s a return to provincial charm as a songwriter. “This is my dream tour. I haven't played solo in little shows for so long, not since Love, Love, Love went crazy”, says Baxter, “I’m really looking forward to the chance to sit with an audience and play some of the quieter songs I haven't had a chance to play on big stages; just me and an acoustic guitar.”
Fans will also get a chance to hear some new tracks from the upcoming Avalanche City record, slated for an early 2014 release.
Joining Baxter on the road will be fellow troubadour Luke Thompson. No stranger to New Zealand’s open roads, Thompson is the perennial traveler, having spent the better part of this year touring his 2012 album To The Common Dark. A longtime collaborator with Baxter, Thompson will be road-testing new tunes being crafted for his third album as well as debuting the video for his new single "Walls", which they recorded together.
With limited tickets available to the shows, this tour will be your chance to see the two songwriters up close, their songs spun through the worn rafters of pubs and town halls. You might even catch a glimpse of the magic that started an avalanche.
