Chet Faker And Hermitude Announce Double Bill For One Off Show At Auckland’s Powerstation

09 January 2014 - 0 Comments

It has only been a week since two of Australia’s most exciting new artists ruled the crowds at Rhythm and Vines.  Rhythm Group Entertainment, George FM and Under the Radar are pleased to announce the speedy return to New Zealand of Chet Faker and Hermitude for one show only at the Auckland Powerstation on the 22nd February.

The crowd waiting at the Rhythm and Vines main stage for Chet Faker to appear were buzzing with anticipation for his first NZ show.  His rise to success may have been swift, but Melbourne based Chet Faker (aka Nicholas Murphy) has carved out a unique style with his own take on electronica that rightly deserves all the accolades.

In 2011, he recorded a cover of No Diggity late one night for his friends. Shared by a handful of people, the song spread like wildfire until reaching #1 on the indie blog charts Hype Machine, and so the Chet Faker identity was born - an ode to Chet Baker's singing style but incorporating influences from a youth spent producing house and disco. It did not take long for word of Chet Faker to spread to the mainstream.  In October of 2012 he won ‘Breakthrough Artist of the Year’ and his EP won ‘Best Independent Release at the Rolling Stone Australia Awards for 2012. He recently dropped a new EP Lockjaw, a collaborative project with Flume, and now he is scheduled to release an album in early 2014 off the back of sold out shows across Australia, the UK and Europe.

Australian hip-hop group Hermitude have been winning fans over with their world class hip-hop production and live shows since 2000. It has been no different in New Zealand this year at Rhythm and Vines where the group were a big draw card to the midnight slot on the main stage with thousands of festival goers going “wild for their hour-long set’, The NZ Herald reported.

Over the past 12 months their profile has exploded off the back of their Australian Music Prize-winning album HyperParadise which was named ‘Best Independent Dance/Electronica album’ at the Jagermeister AIR awards. They have had sold out shows across Australia alongside a sold out headline show in London. They have had overseas success signing a global publishing deal with Sony/ATV, received support from BBC Radio 1 and have undertaken some high-profile remixes for the likes of The Presets, Flume and Missy Higgins.

This double bill show will be the first time that either artist has played to New Zealand audiences outside of their festival appearances.
