It’s the most repetitive request at the end of every Splore Festival event and now Splore is in a position to grant the audience’s wish of becoming an annual event.
Splore will be returning for 2015. Scheduled for February 20-22 this will be the first time the full three day festival has ventured to an annual frequency. Tickets will go on sale through http://www.iticket.co.nz/ on 2 June 2014.
Festival director, John Minty, says “Our research shows us that 83% of our audience want to come every year and from an operational point of view, it is much easier to keep the festival ticking over annually – it’s a win all around for everyone”.
The festival content will continue its long tradition of remaining fresh, inspirational and eclectic over five stages with an array of genres including performance, art and music. This year Splore expanded the zone in the camping area that is situated within the Red Bull Art of Camping zone, which was a huge success.
“Anything from yoga, to family friendly entertainment went on in this zone and was appreciated by parents who couldn’t partake in the party atmosphere in the festival below” says Minty. “Being family friendly is a real point of difference for us and tempers the entire vibe of the festival. It’s a highlight to see the kids having such a great time”.
Splore will continue with its sustainability initiatives with its goal of becoming a zero waste event. “This year we introduced the reusable drinking vessel, the ‘globelet’ - which made a huge difference to the amount of waste at the festival. It made for a much better experience for the audience to be at a clean event with no rubbish on the ground” says Minty. “Splore has set a new benchmark in festival sustainability”.
Splore’s founder and creative director Amanda Wright has decided to pass the baton of festival director to John Minty and will step into a peripheral advisory role for 2015. “I’ve founded Splore and have been integrally involved since its inception in 1998. Its time for me to pursue new opportunities so John is taking the reins as festival director from now on”.
With constant comments on social media about this year’s Splore being the best Splore event yet, festival director John Minty is confident of another successful event for 2015. Joining the database on http://www.splore.net/ will ensure people are the first to hear about acts and tickets.
