Summer Thieves Release Free Track Ahead of Tour & Festival Run

09 December 2015 - 0 Comments

Dunedin band Summer Thieves team up with one of the country’s foremost producers alongside rising rapper Raiza Biza on new track Don’t Matter, available for free download for a limited time.

Produced by multi-platinum, award-winning producer Tiki Taane, Don't Matter is the first offering off the roots-infused rock band’s forthcoming EP Wavy – with fans able to preview the new material live at their headline shows and festivals Rhythm & Vines, Rhythm & Alps and Soundsplash this summer.

Available for free download from the Rhythm& Vines website, Summer Thieves prove they lean towards a more Robin Hood-style of thievery, stealing those sunny-holiday vibes into their music and gifting it away for your listening pleasure.

Recorded at the University of Otago's Albany Street Studio, and engineered by Mike Holland, Don't Matter is the first release from the band since Love is Lost in 2014 and uninhibitedly explores new musical elements and genres.

“We wanted to colab with one of the best MCs in the country and show what Summer Thieves are about now… We wanna switch it up. Raiza is one of those real hip hop artists, he isn't faking, his subject matter is mostly truthful, from the heart."

Frontman Jake Barton goes onto explain how Don’t Matter is a reflection of a situation a friend was caught up in.

“It's about being in way over your head and not having the power to change the situation, it's about being in a situation where it's your word against theirs.”

The release also tops off a huge year for the band who were selected to join Sticky Fingers on their sold-out NZ tour; adding another name to the huge list of acts they’ve worked with including Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Six60, David Dallas, Katchafire and many more.

Don’t Matter is available for purchase and streaming across all digital platforms from Friday 11 December, with a free download available now from Rhythm & Vines. You can also see Summer Thieves live at the following locations:
