After a long hiatus, NZ
girl band Truebliss reunites to perform at the Auckland Pride Parade. This
colourful and joyful annual event kicks of at 6pm on February 20th heading down Ponsonby Road from Three Lamps to Western Park.
The troupe of Megan Alatini, Keri Harper, Joe Cotton and Erika Takacs, have
stayed good friends through the years, and are extremely excited to show their
support of Pride and celebrate the LGBTIQ community in New Zealand.
“We are a close group of girls who love performing together, but more so when
there's a great cause or project which is why we jumped at the chance when
approached for Pride. To be honest, I would've been at the Pride Parade as a
spectator and supporter anyway.” says Megan Alatani.
Megan is a proud allied supporter of the rainbow community – not only her
brother and some of her closest friends but also many of the biggest fans of
Truebliss were from the LGBTIQ community. Truebliss have acknowledged that
there is still some way to come to reach equality and overcome prejudice and
discrimination towards the rainbow community.
“I'm not going to be a silent bystander and see that continue. No. I will shout
in support from the top of my lungs” says Megan Alatani.
The 2016 Pride Parade this year will take over Ponsonby Road on Saturday 20th
February, it’s going to be even more spectacular than ever before.
The theme for the 2016 Auckland Pride Parade is Stories, Myths & Legends, celebrating
narratives and storytelling in all its forms, sharing contemporary experiences,
tales, legends and historic milestones.
Kicking off at a new time of 6pm, the parade takes place in the middle of a
“Pride Day” with activities happening before the advance of the parade and a
free gathering after the parade for all participants! In addition to the new
time, this year, there is an exciting new change with the direction of the
parade going from Three Lamps, making its way to the end point in Western Park.
Heading North to South gives float participants a designated place to gather,
experience and enjoy the party of the year at the Happy Ending from 7pm to 10pm
in Western Park.
