NZ’s first ever central city, open-air electronic music festival will present panoramic views of Waitemata Harbour, a diverse range of the world’s best DJs and producers, and some of NZ’s most exciting food upstarts on Auckland’s Queen’s Wharf this Saturday March 14, 2020.
Beacon Festival will spread out across three stages, coming to life around the neon lights of The Lighthouse by Michael Parekowhai. Two open air stages will live on the back of Queen’s Wharf and feature European DJs including Carista and Skatebard bringing their unique brands of house, disco and soul to the city. Shed 10 will play host to a third stage and be transformed into a strobed-out techno warehouse for performances from some of the biggest names in the game - dance pioneer Richie Hawtin and DJ icons Nina Kraviz and Job Jobse.
Adding to the experience, two famed New Zealand restaurants will pop-up to provide mouth-watering culinary offerings. Auckland-based Celeste, created by Emma Ogilvie and Nick Landsman (the duo responsible for La Peche) will impress with a seafood-inspired spread including market filet o’ fish burgers, shucked oysters and garlic frites. Having found a permanent perch along Karangahape Road, the sleek neo-bistro has a fast growing reputation as a beloved meeting spot. Critically lauded Wellington outfit five Boroughs are also coming on board to serve their infamous gourmet burgers and truffle-laced ‘crack fries’. Their last semi-permanent appearance in Auckland was for a two-month residency in Ponsonby, and they’ve been missed ever since.
Beacon Festival is organised by tastemaker Auckland promoters, Friendly Potential. Responsible for successful event concepts such as the multi-year Anno Domini event series on the balcony of Auckland Art Gallery and Catacombs, an annual weekend-long venture into underground dance music culture in the Civic Theatre’s Wintergarden. Company director and festival organiser Sam Harman comments: “It’s not often you get an opportunity to put together an inner-city festival that combines the best of Tamaki Makaurau with an amazing line up of the world’s finest selectors. We’re so excited to showcase our beautiful waterfront and Auckland’s amazing hospitality, it’s going to be one hell of a party.”
$99 tickets are selling fast, so be sure to secure your ticket now to Tamaki Makaurau’s newest electronic music festival at beaconfestival.com. Beacon Festival is an R18 event.
