Formed in October 2001, Alabaster Theatre is a unique rock band playing original music taking influence from 90s alt-rock, 70s prog-rock, psychedellic rock, neo-classical, folk, gothic, indie and experimental bands. One critic cited the band to be like "Radiohead meets REM with splashes of Pink Floyd, The Smashing Pumpkins and The Cure, if they were pirates". The old Bar Bodega on Willis Street in Wellington hosted their first pub gig in July 2002 and now, four years down the track, after dozens of shows in New Zealand and Germany, Alabaster Theatre finally has a concrete line-up of members. 2005 saw the release of their first public EP "The Rise of the Oak" which was sold at Miss Demeanour on Cuba Street and now it's follow-up EP "The Reign of the Oak" will shortly be released for sale at Slowboat Records on Cuba Street and a hot new range of merchandise will be on sale at Miss Demeanour.
