The Stacks
Wellington, New Zealand
"Never one to be pigeonholed into one particular genre or another, the Stacks are a three-piece band with an infectious onstage energy, a cult-following and a knack for sound experimentation. Geoff Day, Antz ‘Maddog’ Maddock and Baz Thompson are a must see trio. Their new EP with it’s restless rock/punk/blues rhythms will get you dancing for sure!" Pat Shepard exposurelifestyles.com
" The Stacks -Hard edged inde Rock band performing well crafted original tunes.Featuring a traditional 3 piece R&B Drums, Bass and Guitar rhythm section with vocals, the band while having a fresh sound has influences from the 60s & 70s and will literally rock your socks off." Barrie Hutton Accent Entertainment
"The last band of the night was The Stacks, and it was inarguably the one with the biggest fan-base." The trio, took to the stage with a vitality that the rest of the bands previous lacked in. They delivered a musically very tight set, with a great integration of both the instruments and their three part vocals." By Shoshana Mcallum review from WBOB 2006 WGTN Heat
"The Stacks are a Wellington/Hutt City based all original, good ol’ backyard kiwi rock band. Geoff Day, Antz Maddock and Baz Thompson make up the high energy infectious band that will have you either tapping your foot, bopping your head or dancing, where ever you are. The Stacks have just released their debut, self titled E.P, which truly does have you doing just that. The Stacks E.P appeals to everyone. It has three year olds jugging, head bangers banging and even people close to retirement grooving. What’s not to like about that? And, to top that off, their debut E.P has not only got album of the week on Kiwi FM but it was for the first week of May, New Zealand Music Month. Their first recording Mind to Mind has received airplay on such stations as Kiwi FM, National and MUNT FM Wellington. This tune starts off with an awesome guitar riff that pulls you in straight away! Then fast sixteenths on the drums, it’s a song that makes you smile and feel good. In fact, the whole album has the ability to do that in just five songs! The opening track ‘Why you lookin at me?’ opens up the album with a question that you can answer your self. But honestly, with their feel good music, we’re lookin at them because they are pretty darn good! " *THE STACKS debut E.P Reviewed by Samantha vampedup.co.nz
"A truly KIWI sounding band" ...our fans...
and from us... The Stacks have given up on trying to play like so n so and the wotzits, and have come together just to sound like The Stacks, Backyard, ALL ORIGINAL, ALL KIWI, not too hard, not too soft, not in yer face but not backing off, something for the Kids,... Something for the girls, easy to sing, easy to dance and even bang yer head round or just stand there in a trance;o)
Formed late 2005, The Stacks recorded their first 8 songs on the 8th week of jammin, It was then The Stacks knew there was something to pursue, a actual sellable product! They had thought their battle of the bands days were long gone but find themselves back for more this year.
