Inspired by the Fantasy Novel series "The Chronicles Of Thomas Covenant", Despiser was formed in 1986.
The band earned their live chops through 1986 and numbered Mickey B and Ricky Hadfield among their guitarists at different times.
Mickey went on to join Nine Livez, while Ricky went on to record and perform with Dead Flowers.
The classic line up destroyed stages all over Auckland between 1987 and 1990.
Known for their aggressive live sound and over the top stage show, Despiser had the dubious honour of being banned from West Auckland's Westwood Ho Tavern...twice... too much blood on the walls...
The bands Iron Maiden influenced originals such as The Dreams Of Man and From The Dark Of Evil, coupled with some solid perfomances of classic Metal covers by Judas Priest, Metallica and Maiden, floored audiences from Kaitia to Wellington.
Though they never make it into the recording studio, Despisers' live reputation saw their loyal fans spitting at members of Push Push while they performed prior to the final Despiser gig at Aucklands Powerstation.
The demise of Despiser saw the birth of several other hot bands of the time, including Naked Blade, Blue Demon, Tempest and Roadrunner.
