A driving break beat sends your heart rate soaring, entangled with an electro pulse that engages all your senses. You have never heard anything like this before, what could this be? It is the beginning of something very new and exciting, it is the sublime and rapturous soundscapes of The Mechanism.
The Mechanism is the brainchild of drum and bass producer Ben Hudson and front man of Auckland rock band Karma in Chaos - Riley Al-Johary. The two set out to create a fusion style Drum ‘n Bass. A organic blend of electronica, bold break beats, raunchy guitar riffs, and beefy bass lines.
Starting originally as a studio project, The Mechanism decided to recruit additional members to create an engaging live experience. They burst onto the scene with their first live show, opening for the Godfather of Drum and Bass – Goldie, during his New Zealand “Fabric” tour.
Shortly after, The Mechanism signed to Empire Records, an exciting New Zealand record label featuring a range of unique artists.
The notorious duo staged a fight outside of a show they played at. Employing a fight choreographer and professional actors. This was filmed and released as a promo video for the first single “El Gringo”. The video went viral, receiving 45,000 views.
Their follow up video “Porn Star” is a prequel to “El Gringo”. Featuring the same stellar cast.
