Profile for fatt max

Auckland

Originally from London, Fatt Max (aka Mark Hill) came to New Zealand in 1998.

From a very early age, blues music was his prime influence.
Now, after over 30 years of performing and recording, he has settled in Auckland and devotes himself to blues music.

He is a solo artist and draws his influences from varied sources.
Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and Seasick Steve all feature heavily, but at the end of the day, life is the biggest inspiration.

“It’s a way of life, so much more than a mere genre. Blues takes your heart and soul and defines your place in this world. It simply is the music that you can live your life to…”

Fatt Max brings a variety of sounds to his live and recorded music by combining conventional electric and acoustic guitars with handmade instruments made by Max himself. These handmade builds include single string diddly bow’s, cigar box guitars and even instruments made from old car parts. The fusion of modern blues played on traditional instruments gives the unique ‘FM Sound’ that is constantly evolving.

An avid and enthuisatic biker, Fatt Max loves the live scene and enjoys getting out there and playing as many gigs as possible.
