Hummucide is stoked to announce the release of their debut single Reacher, available on the 26th of June on all platforms.
Reacher was one of the band’s first original songs, and Hummucide are very excited to have finally been able to record it. Working with some amazing people on the production including Zane Hawkins, Toby Lloyd from Tiny Triumph Recordings, and Chris Chetland from KOG Studio, they are extremely pleased with how the end product has materialised.
This is the first single in anticipation of their first studio EP, to be released later this year. The cover artwork was created by Fynn Hanson Stevens, and really captures the essence of the project. Fynn described the art as being influenced by the blooming, blossoming quality of the music.
In April, Hummucide released a live EP entitled Live at the Arcade, which was dropped under lockdown as a way to revive the enjoyment of live gigs while everyone was stuck inside.
Born out of the thriving music scene in Te Aro, Wellington, Hummucide is a four-piece minimalist-rock-jazz group. From BadBadNotGood to Aphex Twin to Yussef Kamaal, their influences come from far and wide. Their goal is to get you dancing and feeling something special.
The band comprises of Toby Leman on saxophone (Dr. Reknaw, Revulva, General Vibe), Ben Stewart on keyboard and synths (Sky Canvas, Dr. Reknaw), Lennox Grootjans on drums (Dr. Reknaw) and Hugo Olsen-Smith on bass (O and the Mo, Evolving Wilds). They all started out at the prestigious Te Koki NZSM, before traveling their own musical roads and coming back together to form the Hummucide sound.
