Hot on the heels of Last Chances and Cut to the Chase, Auckland post-punk trio Repairs release Pop Song, their third single of 2020 and opening track from their forthcoming debut album.
A dark and anxious admission of imposter syndrome, the track kicks off with discordant synth and a rumbling bassline, before an outro of gang vocals simply acknowledges what so many of us wish we could do – to be able to just write apop song.
Pop Song is released digitally on Wednesday 22 July.
Repairs have also been busy preparing for their self-released debut album Repeat, Repeat, which was recorded, mixed and mastered over a two-year period between Tamaki Makaurau/Auckland and bassist Nicola Edwards’ home country Scotland.
While Repeat, Repeat includes themes of anxiety, self-doubt, isolation, and frustration at the current state of the world, it’s also an album that’s very much rooted in friendship and solidarity.
Out on Friday 18 September, Repeat, Repeat will be available on all digital streaming platforms and a strictly limited vinyl release of 100. Pre-orders for the album can be made through Flying Out at flyingout.co.nz/collections/all/products/repairs-repeat-repeat.
