Cynic is the second single from dynamic New Zealand duo Human Confusion. A song crafted with a blend of influences and genres that appeals to a diverse range of musical tastes. Huge rolling beats and an industrial synth heavy breakdown with the potent gospel-esque vocal "I want to rise up from the ashes of my past flames".
This empowering song speaks to the positive potential in owning your cynic self, in turning past difficulties into robust boundaries and pride in hard lessons won. It reclaims the negative labels often placed on strong women who have learnt to protect themselves the hard way. Claiming the courage and tenacity of flying solo, the beauty in dancing the dark.
Human Confusion is classically trained, turned punk diva Miriam Leslie of Whiskey and The Wench, Spinster and Kill Martha fame and Elenor Rayner, electro-industrial originator from Soulscraper, The Crystalline Effect and Sobriquet. They hail from different musical scenes but this diversity from the get go lends to the originality and style that is breaking stereotypes.
The vibe of their sound oscillates from poignant, impassioned and tender to whimsical, operatic and boisterous. Their music entirely defies traditional genre labelling so a new one has been carved, Velvet Swoon Tech.
The release includes two remixes: dark dancefloor by Robots In Love (Dunedin) and dreamy electro by Fate Æffect (Melbourne).
