As one of the only countries in the world to welcome back live shows following the pandemic induced music industry pause, New Zealand electronic duo Sachi reestablish their rightful place on the dancefloor with new single, You (a la).
Written and produced over the lockdown period, You (a la) sees Sachi approach collaboration as a newfound individual process. Formed via email sessions from their respective bedrooms, You (a la) was written with Swedish singer Hilda, Shy Martin, and Anton Rundberg; redefining the act of collaboration in true 2020 style.
Keeping in mind the restraints of the lockdown period, when creating You (a la), the pair were infatuated with the fantasy of live shows in an unprecedented time where gigs are forbidden. The duo consisting of Will Thomas and Nick Chrisp spent a large amount of their lockdown downtime writing at home and by way of wishful thinking the club-ready EDM punch of You (a la) was produced.
“Around this time every year we usually do an overseas writing trip, so this internet collaboration was kinda the next best thing for us, and it pushed us to work with people we might not under normal circumstances,” Will says of the song’s unconventional process.
Nick adds, “We’re one of the only markets in the world doing shows right now, we’re so excited to share the song with Kiwis coming back out and dancing together, but we still wanted it to sound great in headphones or around the house too, as a form of escapism for the people around the world who still can’t go out dancing.”
Executing electronic dance music escapism, at the heart of Sachi’s soundscape is the joy found in the shared experience of music. With the release of You (a la), Sachi seeks to unite listeners worldwide as a community of collective exchanged energy.
You (a la) follows Sachi’s early 2020 single Enchante, and their 2019 sophomore EP, Nights With Ruby, which has amassed over 25 million streams. This past Summer the pair embarked on an extensive Summer festival run, playing in front of over 100,000 fans at Rhythm & Vines, Northern Bass, SoundSplash, Six60 Saturday’s and many more. Sachi have also just been announced for a string of summer 2021 dates, as New Zealand leads the way.
