Raw Collective present their soulful and energetic new single 'Waiting for Sunrise'

Get set for a multi-instrumental extravaganza! From much loved, Wellington ten-piece hip-hop group, Raw Collective, comes their latest single Waiting for Sunrise - the 2nd single off their highly anticipated new album, The Good Things, recorded live at The surgery Studios and due for release in February 2021.

Weave your way through the sounds of saxophones, trumpet, trombone, bass, guitars and drums. A mix of the old with the new, a feeling of soulful energy, memorable and honest storytelling to a hip-hop beat, enriched by the sexy sound of a brass section.

The band, have spent the past few years taking their own brand of hip-hop from Wellington to the world, headlining their own tours and festivals both here and overseas, to huge acclaim and with a rapid rise in fans and music streams. The music from their 2 albums released in 2018, gained over 400k Spotify streams, showing the love for this band from fans the world over, and this doesn’t look to be slowing anytime soon.

Now home in Aotearoa, and gearing up for the release of their new album and national tour early in 2021, Raw collective present their latest offering Waiting for Sunshine, the ‘ray of light’ we all desperately need mid-winter, showcasing their boundless talent and cohesiveness as a 10-piece group.

This track is all about that feeling, when we are "waiting for the sun to rise". Those times when you're stuck, looking to the future knowing things are only going to get brighter and easier. A hopeful song, focusing on the good things in life.

The verses are suspenseful, slowly building like the middle of a passing storm with the mood to match. The chorus finally arrives lifting the song, purposely written to feel like the sun has come out! Uplifting, as the clouds have passed...

“This song makes me think of a festival experience we had years ago. The place was hit with horizontal, torrential rain. Our tents had flooded, the band huddled around a gas cooker in my girlfriend's campervan luckily we brought.

Then just before the day ended, a feeling larger than any performance, the clouds cleared and the sun poked its way through, buy this stage festival goers had left for their lives retreating back to civilization. Eventually, the Hundreds who remained, saw the sight of the storm clearing as the sun rays came through the clouds, saving our new year's night. People were honking their horns, standing on the roofs, cheering the sun's arrival. I've never had such a feeling, a holy godlike experience, the good old sun. Cheers Ra, this tracks for you.” Raw Deazy (Emcee & Producer).
