Next week the World Battle of the Bands 2006 competition kicks off in its birthplace, New Zealand. Heats, semi-finals and regional/venue finals will be held throughout NZ over the next ten weeks. There will be over sixty shows and the winners from the regional/venue finals will compete at the national final at Auckland’s Hysteria 7th of October. NZ sponsors and media partner’s incl. Juice TV, Jack Daniels, Intergalactic Records, Stebbing Studios, Area 51 Studios, Missing Link Magazine and more.
Hong Kong and Singapore are gearing up for their kick off, with Heat 1 in both cities happening on the 17th of August. Some of Asia’s best venues, media outlets and brands are involved in supporting the World Battle of the Bands in 2006. Now in 5 countries in Asia, WBOB major sponsor for these markets is Jagermeister, the fastest growing brand in the liquor industry and proud supporter of live music throughout the world.
The Philippines is embracing WBOB with heavyweight sponsors and media partners including Jagermeister, Pulp Magazine, Smart Mobile, MTV, and NU107 on board this year. Presented and organized by Pulp, the Philippines takes WBOB to new heights with 60 000 CD’s of entrants songs are distributed through Pulp Magazine where the public can text vote or vote on-line for their favourite band. This adds a new dimension to the judging process. The live portion of the Philippines event will also be starting in August.
The two new Asian markets that have joined in for 2006, China and Taiwan, are looking very strong. In Taiwan, our new Local organizer and digital media partner Falomi, in conjunction with ANNF the World Battle of the Bands is quickly establishing itself in this new WBOB region. Over 70 bands already signed up. There will be on-line voting included in judging as well as live gig heats in this years Taiwan competition. Training camps will be run for the bands who reach the final before they hit the main stage at Warner Park Village in front of the Taipei 101 (the tallest building in the world). This concert will be broadcast nationally on television and further online / digital initiatives currently being developed.
China, USA and Australia all have lots of activity behind the scenes, with shows taking place in Australia Mid September through November. China runs all shows in October & Beijing’s coolest local music venue Yugongyishan is the principal venue. Los Angeles (year 3 WBOB) and New York (year 1 WBOB!) kicks off October ending in November. The World Final is in Hong Kong on SAT 25 November, venue to be announced.
