The Mutes (From Mars) Rock out as hard as anyone else with new EP and Videos

28 August 2020 - 0 Comments

The Mutes (From Mars) release their mini-EP and two live videos today on Bigpop. Started eight years ago by disability service provider A Supported Life, The Mutes (From Mars) are New Zealand’s most unique rock band, made up of talented musicians with a range of social and learning disabilities, and their mentor and band leader Sam Benge, who also produces the band’s recordings.

"This is a huge milestone for the Mutes - For years we have been working towards this time where we are playing our best and have been able to create such high quality material. In particular having live videos so people can see what we are capable of is a real buzz!" Benge said.

The band had to cancel their EP release shows due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, but hope to reschedule their release celebrations soon, so that audiences can see what they've got to offer.

"Unfortunately due to Covid 19 we have had to cancel a string of shows that we had booked to promote the release of our new Live EP and Live videos. The band is really missing that connection they get when playing to an audience. It is that rush of adrenaline when we are playing in front of a crowd that really brings out the best in us and helps create memorable experiences."

"When people come to see us play live we want them to be blown away by seeing adults with intellectual disabilities rocking out just as hard as anyone else. We want our audience to be uplifted by our music and be filled with a sense that anything is possible," Benge said.

Band member Gabriel Friedlander says Rockin Rollers is about feeling the freedom that only the rockin roll life style can give. "It's about taking the first step out of your Comfort zone and just rolling with it. Or should I say rocking with it."

Jet Plane is a little more mellow. Band member Lisa Hannam says it's about being free in your own world and finding love. She can't wait until gigs are back.

"Playing music is just so exciting and it fills us with a feeling that is hard to describe."

The Mutes from Mars Live EP is out today on Bigpop.
