Kiwi singer Jennifer K. Austin has released her new album Journey, following the album’s singles Shadow, Misery and Old Gin, and her 2015 debut album and two international single collaborations.
Journey was written by Jennifer and produced by Akshay Raju from Depot Sound Recording Studio and has been highly influenced by her life story from the birth of her child and the struggles of being both a mother and an artist.
Born and raised in the United States and with 15 years of classical vocal training, Jennifer is a versatile singer and music teacher – mentoring students at the West-end Performing Arts School in Melbourne, Australia where she taught private and group singing lessons along with musical theatre classes to many award winning students.
Eight years ago Jennifer relocated to Auckland to further her career in the performing arts and has performed in Aotearoa Found in Translation at the Basement Theatre and most recently was the lead in a double sell out run of an original musical by Stephen Sinclair Love me Tinder.
Jennifer’s new album has been in the incubator waiting to be birthed for four years and holds 10 versatile tracks ranging from, dark downtempo piano ballads, to upbeat hoedown country hits. Taking inspiration from listening to her father playing his country set list as a kid, as well as the various genres she grew up with, this album has a broad multicultural flavour. The words Jennifer shares are her musical diary which she hopes will inspire and encourage others to document their own personal memoire or journey!
